One of the many things we LOVE is seeing is progress for girls. It's in our DNA. It's simple stuff really but it can often be the simple things that lead to the most profound results.
The whole philosophy of Wanderlust People is really simple. If you have to break it down it's about four key things - respect; sustainability; craftsmanship; and creating a better world. Simple right? Respect for the people, the cultures, and the places we visit. Pursuing sustainability - for the people we work with and in our own homes and communities. Upholding traditional craftsmanship and supporting skills development for future generations. And investing our profits and people and programs who share our vision for a more just world. It should be simple.
While this is certainly the way we want to do "business" and is absolutely the kind of community we want to create. There are some still some major issues contributing to poverty and complex developmental problems going on in the countries we work in. So while doing business through a social-minded lens is absolutely important we also need to be aware of some of the big issues and work towards seeing them overcome.
There are still a lot of issues holding girls back in most parts of the world and we absolutely believe that communities will be a lot more successful when girls are empowered with an education. Elissa is currently working with Care Australia in Vanuatu - an international aid organisation committed to fighting global poverty with a special focus on women and girls. Now, Elissa may be flying under the radar lately but I don't want to let her get away with it. :-) The work she is doing in the Pacific is really amazing so I wanted to share the latest project she's being work on. Because a) I'm mega proud and b) this is totally our DNA!
