Get your Christmas shop on!

Aimee Pearce

Ok so....I say it every year. The same old mantra. "I won't be a last minute Christmas shopper. I will be organised. I will plan in advance. I won't run around buying gifts at the last minute". And yet...most years I tend to fail miserably. BUT there have been a few years where I have tasted the sweet success of highly organised Christmas shopping victory. And trust me. It tastes good!

Why is fairtrade important?

Aimee Pearce

There’s nothing quite like the feeling of weaving your way through a bustling, colourful market. Of being pulled this way and that, cajoled, sweet-talked, harassed and harangued– only to bust out your travel-savvy, hard-nosed, no-nonsense, don’t screw me over, I will bargain you down to a fair price if it kills me, all-time haggling moves. We've all been there. The problem is, when you’re elbow-deep in a market far from home, you have no way of knowing what the “fair” price actually is.

Life is worth celebrating!

Aimee Pearce

Celebrate good times - come on! I can hear you humming! When you're travelling, nothing beats stumbling upon a celebration! This photo was taken in the town square in Arequipa, Peru. What was the celebration in aid of? I have absolutely no idea! But it was awesome! I had to snap a photo of this guy - he had the best expression on his face, the entire time. He was just getting into the groove of life!

This week at Wanderlust People, we are celebrating too! We have launched our new-look online store and it is packed full of wanderlust worthy treasures that we just know will have you dancing for joy. Imagine the look and feel of our past collections, but with the volume of treasures hugely enlarged! So you can rest assured - any time you have a gift to buy for anyone in your world (friend, sibling, husband, parents, work colleagues, kids) there will be loads of choice! And remember all Wanderlust People products come beautifully wrapped and are couriered to your door so you don't have to worry about a thing!

So enjoy browsing!

The grand unveiling

Aimee Pearce

It is with great excitement, a sigh of relief, a healthy dose of anticipation, a good bout of nerves and of course a measure of exhaustion that we introduce Wanderlust People to the world.

To say it's been a long time coming would be an understatement. But some of the best things in life take the longest time to become a reality: like cheese and fine wine, they need time to mature and be ready for vintage – or go sour and need to be thrown out. For us, that's one of the main reasons we finally decided to take the plunge and birth this baby. The idea had been brewing for so long and we still loved it! Every time we dreamed about it together, our discussions always centred on "when we start our online Fairtrade store". It wasn't a matter of "if" but "when". And six years down the road we were still talking like dreamers – we loved the idea, we believed in the concept, but we hadn't found that "perfect" time to make the leap.

As anyone who has ever started something probably knows, it's unlikely that the perfect time will ever arrive. For us, we had plenty of legitimate excuses - new jobs to start, careers to progress, health complications to overcome, study to complete, children to raise, money to prioritise elsewhere. And yet we still dreamed. We still knew it was a brilliant idea and it wasn’t going away. And that's really the only reason we finally decided to make the leap – because we didn't want to become regretful old ladies who always wondered what could have been if they had ever had the guts to make the leap.

And so we started. In between work and travel and life. While one of us had our first child and one of us welcomed our third to the world, somehow we managed to begin. It started with simply putting pen to paper and crafting words around our dream, and it culminated with unpacking boxes and boxes full of treasures while surrounded by small children vying for our attention.

It has often been a joy, sometimes been a challenge and always been a juggle. In our juggling act there have been times when we've felt like there are far more balls strewn on the ground than we have successfully in the air.

But we're finally here! As we launch, we feel like we are launching ourselves. As much as Wanderlust People is our baby, it is also very much who we are. We are the dreamers, the seekers, the travellers, the adventurers, the optimists. It's nice to meet you! We know there are many of you who share our DNA and we look forward to meeting you and sharing the journey with you.
