Power ballads for the global explorer

Aimee Pearce

There's nothing like a good power ballad to get you in the mood for an adventure. You know the kind - fake microphone, belting out the chorus to at the top of your lungs, windows down and hair blowing in the breeze. The promise of an adventure so close you can taste it.

This great article posted on Matador Network highlights 28 songs that capture the spirit of travel. Take a trip down memory lane, crank up the tunes, pour yourself a glass of wine, shake off those Monday blues, pull out a map of the world and start plotting your next adventure.

Travel resolutions

Aimee Pearce

OK so it's a new year...for many the first day of the working year. And there's a thing about setting resolutions right? Getting in shape, being a better human, that kind of thing? Well I'll come to that in another post but I'd rather kick the year off on a more positive, exciting note and for me that really comes down to travel goals. Anyone with me?

A million reasons to love home

Aimee Pearce

I love the kind of weekends that leave you with a new appreciation of where you live. Us wanderlusters are blessed (or cursed depending which way you look at it) with a zest for life and passion for travel that on good days makes us beautiful dreamers, seekers, explorers, wanderers and on bad days leaves us feeling unsettled, disconnected, and if we are really honest, a little irritating to be around because we can't connect with the here and now.

That's why if you're a wanderluster at heart who can't ALWAYS be wandering, it's important for your own mental health (and probably even more so for those around you) to stay connected and in awe of the beauty around you - in the here and now. So you're not always dreaming of somewhere else, somewhere better.

Adventure is a path

Elissa Webster

“Adventure is a path. Real adventure – self-determined, self-motivated, often risky – forces you to have firsthand encounters with the world. The world the way it is, not the way you imagine it. Your body will collide with the earth and you will bear witness. In this way you will be compelled to grapple with the limitless kindness and bottomless cruelty of humankind – and perhaps realize that you yourself are capable of both. This will change you. Nothing will ever again be black-and-white.” ― Mark Jenkins

On the road....5 awesome modes of transport

Aimee Pearce

Catching public transport just doesn't have the same appeal at home. There's nothing exotic about jumping on a bus in Brisbane city or slogging it through the burbs on your daily train commute. Where I live on the Sunshine Coast we barely even have public transport! And yet, when you're in a foreign country, the way you get from point A to point B, all become part of the glorious, romantic adventure. Whether it's riding on the back of a motorbike in Indonesia, (without the inhibitions of a helmet) or dodging heart-palpitation-inducing traffic in an Indian rickshaw - the way we travel becomes part of the beautiful fabric of our journey tales. But there are risks and rewards with every option!

Best films to inspire Wanderlust

Aimee Pearce

There's something great about sitting down to watch a good movie. It helps you escape from the day-to-day, get your creative juices flowing; a great film can even inspire you to do something amazing or be a better version of yourself. And sometimes a movie can just help you escape! It doesn't even necessarily have to boast great plot or a brilliant script but it can still manage to leave you sitting on the couch as the credits roll, grinning like a Cheshire cat because it's inspired your next trip or left you reminiscing about your own past journeys.
